The steering shaft only can be applied to 3/4” DD U joints.

The fully machined double D shaft can easily be cut to an exact length for your steering system. So machining allowance is necessary at first, then make a finish cut to the exact length needed.
To strengthen the connection of a double D style joint to the shaft, you can drill a dimple on the steering shaft for the set screw to seat.
